What does a typical weekend consist of:
By the time you arrive on the first night, you will have received the specific itinerary for the trip including all the contact details, information on what to expect.
As a general rule, the following is the itinerary we work too. Our weekends are not "boot camps", the emphasis is on fun, making the most of our time away and most importantly ensuring you have a good time. Everyone involved works extremely hard with all the preparations to ensure the weekend runs smoothly.
Friday : Arrival at the Venue
6:00 pm. Normal check in time for arrival at the venue. On arrival you will be met by one of the Organising staff who will show you to your room and assist with carrying any bags. You'll be given a run down on the accommodation and facilities.
Friday Evening Meal:
As participants will be arriving at different times, we arrange a buffet supper meal to accommodate late arrival times. The majority who've arrived at the allocated check in time, will sit for a meal together at 8PM.
The meal comprises of a homemade soup (suitable for vegetarians), bread, ham, cheese and a variety of cold salads.
This is also a great opportunity for everyone to get to know one another and new attendees to talk to regulars about what to expect over the weekend.
10:30 pm. Once the majority of members have arrived your hosts will again welcome you to the weekend, explain the programme for the weekend, outline the hikes and activities planned and answer any question you might have.
12 pm. Food is available until midnight or the last member has arrived!
Saturday and Sunday mornings:
7:45 am. The breakfast buffet is laid out. This includes cereals, bread, jams, marmalades, peanut butter, honey, fruit and yoghurt.
Tea pots are made and fresh coffee is on the brew. Fresh juices comprising apple and orange.
8:00 am. Cooked breakfast and porridge.
Eggs, sausages, beans.
8:30 am. The breakfast buffet stuff starts to be cleared away to make room for the sandwich preparation area. As everyone's tastes are different, this is a great opportunity for members to demonstrate their creativity on sandwich recipes.
We have a selection of breads such as white, wholemeal, half and half, gluten free. A freshly baked ham is sliced for the meat eaters and always a popular choice. Other fillings include tuna & sweetcorn, cheese, salads etc.
9:15 - 9:30 am. Everyone gathers together and the agreed assembly point. The Hike Leaders will take their individual groups to one side to discuss the route and show everyone on the map what to expect. This is a great opportunity for those who'd like to learn to map read to gain some instruction and have a go.
By 9:30 am. Everyone who's hiking will have departed.
5:00 pm. Both groups will have returned from the different distance hikes, the earlier group showered and changed. There's nothing better after a long day of hiking to sit down to tea and homemade cakes.
7:00 pm Members start to gather around the kitchen or dining room helping with tasks to set up the dining tables, peeling veg or topping up a glass or two!
8:00 pm. Group dinner. The food is cooked from fresh and prepared by the team, under the supervision of the Chef.
9:30 pm. A quick summary of the day and overview of the following days hiking routes and groups.
Repeat of Saturday's breakfast times and sandwich preparations.
8:45 am - 9:45 am Everyone joins in to clear away, tidy up and pack their bags away in the cars ready for the departure later in the day.
